This holiday season, our thoughts are with the large population of homeless families and children here in Los Angeles. Having worked with the Downtown Women's Center early this year, we wanted to highlight this issue again and have partnered with LA Family Housing to donate a percentage of all holiday sales to help them provide advocacy and sustainable housing support for those in need.
LA Family Housing is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping people transition out of homelessness and poverty through a continuum of housing enriched with supportive services. Based on the principles of dignity, perserverance, leadership and collaboration, the organization is ending homelessness by combining best practices and a "whatever-it-takes, as-long-as-it-takes" approach.
LAFH was founded in 1983 when a group of interfaith leaders in the San Fernando Valley noticed the sharp increase of families experiencing homelessness in their community. They gathered local support and raised the funds to pruchase a 40-unit motel that would later become LAFH's "Valley Shelter".
Over the last 35 years, LAFH has grown to become one of the largest providers of housing and homeless services in Los Angeles, now serving 7,300+ people annually. They now operate 26 properties of temporary, permanently affordable, and permanent supportive housing across Los Angeles.
